x3270 model 4 - How do I use all the available lines?

Hello everyone, just got into MVS 3.8j with Turnkey, I used to be a COBOL/PL1/CICS programmer and analyst for a decade, ages ago, but I have never had a chance to even see an MVS console. At the time it was the domain of mighty sysadmins that everyone was talking about but never seen in real life ...

So, a steep learning curve to get me back to almost where I was, which was to build applications.

Now my question is, how do I get TSO to use the full screen of an x3270 emulating model 4? All I get is the first 20-23 lines instead.

I run a search in the forum and found a similar question, but I could not understand the reply.

Could anyone be so kind to supply or point me to a step by step guide to do that?

Thank you in advance.

Greg Price has several patches (SMP updates) to the system that
will allow TSO to support larger screen sizes. See
http://www.prycroft6.com.au/vs2mods/
If you haven't done this before, make a copy of your MVSnnn disk
packs, then apply the modifications.

If that's too daunting, join hercules-os380, where you can run a
script to download and install the files to give you a more
up-to-date version of Hercules and MVS 3.8j (and some MVS
applications). The default will give you model 4 (43*80) support
provided your tn3270 client is set for that size.

Gerhard is leaving something out when he says the custom
Hercules version used by the hercules-os380 crew is "more
up-to-date". It is a version which mis-implements at least
one significant feature that IBM has put in it's mainframes
since S/360 days, namely memory protection. This is enough
of an issue that the Hercules developers have refused to
support the hercules-os380 Hercules version and have declined
to include their modifications into the base Hercules version.
To show how contentious the matter is, yet another forum
(hercules-380) has arisen to provide a different solution to
implementing an S/380 version of Hercules mods that don't
violate the basic IBM mainframe design.

As to the hercules-os380 version of MVS38j, a similar state
exists with some things removed and some things added but
regardless it's not Tur(n)key-MVS which is what this forum
specifically addresses.

Long ago, S/380 and related issues were declared off-topic by
this group's owner, and nothing in that regard has changed.
S/380 topics continue to be off-topic here.

S/380 discussions stop here.

Gerhard: I have temporarily placed your posts on moderation.
I am quite tired of talking about S/380 in the turnkey-mvs
forum. As I said above, it is off-topic and I have no
intention of entering into a Just One More Thing thread.
The subject has already been flogged to death. If you wish
to discuss S/380, please do so elsewhere.

Please feel free to contact me offline if you wish to discuss
the matter further.

Thank you,

But which mods do I have to apply? I applied ZP60008 and ZP60009, but I do not see any changes. RPF (I have the latest 1.5.3 installed) still works as if the terminal were a model-1. I have also the latest QUEUE installed and by issuing the MODEL/M 3 (or 4) command the session locks with the message: IKT004051 SCREEN ERASURE CAUSED BY ERROR RECOVERY PROCEDURE.

Since I do not intend to go for S380 as suggested, please could you help getting this to work on the turnkey?

Thank you.
